Dear Enhydra Community,
Many of you have asked what has been happening with
Enhydra.org over the past few months. Well as a matter of
fact a lot has been going on behind the scenes and we are
about ready to start rolling it out. Hold onto your hats...
Today the EnhydraME initiative was launched. This is a
collaborative effort of industry experts in the wireless and
micro-java spaces who have come together to build the
world's first micro application server platform! Frankly we
are not sure how it will turn out but expect the server to
be able to synchronise with its J2EE big brother (Enhydra
Enterprise). Sign up now and get involved and help evolve
the concept. Check out http://me.enhydra.org for more
details.
Under the EnhydraME umbrella are a number of micro-java
technology projects. Many of you are familiar with Stefan
Haustein's kXML (http://kxml.enhydra.org) and kSOAP
(http://ksoap.enhydra.org) projects already. These are
joined by kHttp (http://khttp.enhydra.org), a micro http
server and Locumi (http://locumi.enhydra.org), a http proxy
compatible with kHttp. Both these projects are from the
heart and soul of John Beatty, a veteran programmer and now
Juxta visionary. For those that missed John's talk at
JavaONE (I admit it, I did) he demonstrated Web Services
running in J2ME on a PDA device. This was not a client, but
rather a server actually serving up Web Services! This demo
made use of Stefan's kXML parser and SOAP implementation and
consequently this EnhydraME initiative was a match made in
heaven.
In the pipeline is a micro Mail implementation (mail4ME)
as well as plans for a synchronization engine, micro app
container and micro database. Lots to do, so sign up for the
me@enhydra.org mail list and help code the micro future.
There is plenty more news to come, so stay tuned for
more developments over the next few weeks.
Regards,
Paul.
